This is me ironing a piece of a quilt I am working on with my mom. I was often told as a kid (by my mom) to "never learn to iron" the same was said about sewing garments besides the occasional small repair. The reason she told me was that if I learned to iron, " I would never escape it". She implied that the men in my life would expect me to iron their clothes. She meant it well, however she coincidentally contributed to the idea that women should not partake in an activity lest there be consequences from a man. Later on I realized that I really do love sewing and often work on quilts and garments with my mom and I did learn to iron.
