This image is a photo of a rock climbing wall at a local bouldering gym that I go to. It shows intersecting routes that are pink and green and represent various difficulty levels. You can also see the white chalk spread throughout the wall, often concentrated on one or two holds that are most frequently grasped tightly and repeatedly, since they are likely to be a common challenging point for multiple climbers that have attempted the route.
I really like this photo and what it represents since you are able to tell a lot about the people that have climbed here before just by looking at the routes and thinking about how different attempted it. Although this wall has been climbed by probably 100s of people already, and likely will have a 100 more people using it before it is changed, it is still only a temporary part of the gym and will eventually be changed into something new.
This photo brings me joy because the different routes and the distribution of the chalk really demonstrate the idea of community in climbing gyms such as this one. It shows how all of us climbers are able to share this wall and practice something that brings us joy while each attempting it in our own individual ways. I really resonate this idea of expressing your individuality among a group of likeminded individuals.
