[This photo displays a church chapel]. This is during the beginning worship set, the ending song is usually the best and sometimes they sing in different languages (so far Korean and Spanish), and if you look closely you can see the lyrics in Spanish. I thought I'd take the picture specifically here because Spanish is technically one of my home languages, although I am nowhere near fluent, since my mom is bilingual and whenever Spanish lyrics come on I always send it to her. The lighting is warm yet loud at the same time, the glass panes on the side really create the "church vibe". I'm standing behind the pew with my 5 friends, including my partner. Throughout a college's students journey, they may encounter a church community (especially if they are religious already). This was mine. But this is my third year at UCI so I did not automatically find the church I am at. This church is called Newsong and they're known for being "Home of the Misfits", a church where anyone of any background is not only welcomed but embraced with open arms by the whole community. Religious settings are known for being of the judgmental type, but when I discovered this church I felt all the judgment from the other churches I was hurt by wash away. It is especially difficult as a LGBTQ+ individual in a relationship, so I'm glad I found a place where I feel safe.
